We are successful financiers, investors, entrepreneurs with CEO experience in the European and American medical sector.  We have a proven track record in identifying, structuring, financing and managing medical companies.

Herbert L. Oakes, Jr. is an investment banker, venture capitalist and serial entrepreneur.  In addition to financing over fifty public and private companies at Oakes Lyman and its predecessor, Oakes Fitzwilliams, he has completed a number of corporate transactions, including the collaboration between Xenova and Genentech; the sale of Psygnosis to Sony; and the disposals by Olivetti S.p.A. of its personal computer and printed circuit board businesses.  He has been a director and/or chairman of a number of publicly held companies in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Richard P. Lyman is a venture capitalist, corporate executive, and serial entrepreneur.  In 1979, after a period as president of Squibb’s Medical Systems International Group, he joined the venture capital firm Adler & Co. where he assembled and managed the healthcare portfolio that included a controlling interest in Biotechnology General, Inc. (chairman and CEO); and Life Technologies, Inc. (chairman and CEO), now an integral part of Invitrogen.  In 1985, he raised and was managing partner of Healthcare Ventures 1, the then largest life science venture fund in the U.S. that formed ten new companies by assembling the scientific and management talent.  Companies in this fund included MedImmune, Inc., Genetic Therapy, Inc. (chairman), and Osteotech, Inc. (chairman).

Dr. Jakob (“Jaap”) Kampinga, is a medical doctor, academic scientist, and serial entrepreneur.  He became the R&D director of Quadrant Healthcare plc in 1994. Quadrant floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1998 and was acquired by Elan Pharmaceuticals in 2000. Dr. Kampinga was an executive director and a key member of the team that promoted the initial public offering. He was the founder of Jari Pharmaceuticals BV.

Howard Miller, is a medical scientist and a highly respected securities analyst.  In 2000, he became a life science equities research analyst at the specialist small-cap U.K. investment banking firm Teather & Greenwood.  In 2004, he became Head of Research for the firm responsible for a team of over 25 analysts plus their support staff covering the majority of sectors in the UK market.  He joined Oakes Lyman in August 2007.
